Our structure

IGI Poseidon S.A. is a 50-50% Joint Venture between DEPA International Projects S.A. and Edison S.p.A., incorporated under Greek law and based in Athens.

Depa International Projects S.A.

DEPA International Projects was established in May 2020. Its establishment follows the adoption of Law 4643/2019, which amended Law 4001/2001 and provided that DEPA S.A would transfer its participation in international projects through a spin-off to a new legal entity. After its successful operational and commercial autonomy, the company has proceeded to the elaboration of a long-term strategic plan, aiming at the diversification of the country’s sources of supply thereby enhancing the participation of Greece by the development and the implementation of energy projects in the wider region included in the European Union’s plan for the realization of the Single European Energy Market.

Edison S.p.A

Edison SpA  is Europe’s oldest energy company, and one of the industry leaders in Italy and in Europe. Today Edison operates in 10 countries around the world and have a staff of over 4,900 people in different areas of business: electric power, natural gas, energy and environmental services to final users. The company carries out activities integrated along the whole value-chain, and it targets to become leader in energy transition of the country. Edison is also committed to developing gas import infrastructures for Italy and Europe, and through its subsidiaries manages regulated activities (gas transport, storage and distribution), contributing to the diversification of sources and routes of supply for the national energy system safety and competitiveness.

Exploring new opportunities for European energy supply

The Eastern Mediterranean represents a key quadrant for the diversification and stability of markets in the medium term, guaranteeing to European a direct and continuous access not only to one of the world’s largest basins of natural gas, but also – considering that Eastern Mediterranean area and the Middle East are the two main basins for the production of low carbon energy – to renewable sources and new vectors such as hydrogen. The available volumes, confirmed by local E&P players, will be sufficient for the development of new export infrastructures in addition to, and not in competition with, the existing ones.

Enhancing European energy security

Since its foundation in 2008, IGI Poseidon has been always committed to enhance European energy diversification and security of supply, by providing to Southeastern Europe market the access to new sources and routes, via the development of new efficient energy transmission lines. In this regard, the undertaken initiatives can foster the creation of a Mediterranean energy corridor able to replace the existing traditional routes controlled by a single supplier, enabling the implementation of an effective southeast energy hub in Europe, able to provide stable supply flows and to promote market integration.

Contributing to Energy transition

IGI Poseidon Projects have been designed to support the European energy transition to cleaner energy sources, enabling the transportation of significant quantities of green gases, as hydrogen, when it will be available on the market and supporting the reduction of greenhouse gases. In line with pursuing its commitment to the energy transition, IGI Poseidon, as a project promoter, became a member of the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance (ECHA).
